A shop security guard has said he tried to save an 11-year-old girl as she was being attacked by a knifeman in London's Leicester Square.
The Metropolitan Police reported on X that a man has been arrested following the stabbing of a young girl and a 34-year-old woman. Abdullah, a 29-year-old employee at TWG tea in Leicester Square, intervened to stop the assailant and, with the assistance of colleagues, provided first aid to the child. The police indicated that they do not believe there are any outstanding suspects and that there is currently no indication of a terror motive related to the incident.
While the girl is expected to require hospital treatment, her injuries have been deemed non-life-threatening, and the woman sustained only minor injuries. Police are maintaining a presence at the site of the incident, which is located in a bustling tourist area of London.
In an interview, Abdullah recounted hearing a scream and rushing outside to confront the attacker, stating, “I jumped on the attacker... and kicked the knife away from him.” He expressed that he felt a sense of urgency, saying he simply acted without thinking. He and other bystanders managed to hold the assailant down until the police arrived, emphasizing his obligation to help the victims in a moment of crisis.
Witnesses described the scene as shocking and distressing. Following the incident, police continued to investigate the area, which was marked by various objects left behind, including bloody napkins and a green lighter.
